The Envelope Printery Inc recently hosted a “Lunch n Learn” event in conjunction with the Detroit Postal Customer Council (PCC).

The event began with lunch provided by Mexican Fiesta of Canton.  We discussed Postal regulations regarding envelopes sizes and mailing costs.  We also talked about the importance of becoming certified as a mail piece designer. Once the USPS completed their end of the presentation we gave a short historical background of an envelope and what an envelope is.  Attendees got to learn about different types of envelopes, how to measure them correctly including the proper way to measure window size and position.  Once Ed Mkrtumian completed his portion of the presentation it was turned over to the plant engineer, John Marks.  John gave a detailed talk about various manufacturing processes of an envelope before breaking up into small groups to tour the facility.

Attendees were then broken up into small groups and taken around The Envelope Printery Inc’s plant. Attendees were able to see our full cutting department, robust manufacturing department, and our multi-faceted printing department. Attendees received an excellent opportunity to see the various ways envelopes are made from start to finish. Regardless of one’s role in the printing community (marketing, printing, maufacturing, mailing, and so on), this tour helped attendees reinstate their role in the printing process as well as see how everyone’s role is connected in the PCC community.

The “Lunch n Learn” series of events put on by the PCC is a joint effort between the USPS and the local mailing and printing industry.  It gives members an opportunity network and share their knowledge in a relaxed social setting.  Being part of the PCC opens doors to a multitude of advantages for its members.  Events such as this one keeps you sharp and knowledgeable about the industry and the latest advancements.  It is important that we as a team (the USPS and the printing and mailing industry) not only share the latest technology or processes but also promote direct mail and it’s importance to the overall economy.

We thank everyone who took the time to visit The Envelope Printery Inc. We look forward to more events held in conjunction with the PCC!
